The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) celebrated the 75th Republic Day in the campus, Maidan Garhi, Delhi. The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nageshwar Rao unfurled the national flag at the VCO premises. Prof. Nageshwar Rao addressed the students and everyone at IGNOU Headquarters and the staff of Regional Centres on the occasion. In his address, Prof. Nageshwar Rao said that IGNOU has taken a significant step forward towards translating programs in regional languages, as a move to make higher education more accessible in Indian languages and mother tongues Aligning with the National Education Policy, 2020, IGNOU not only promotes Indian languages, arts, and culture but also provides stand-alone courses in Kashmiri, Nepali, and Meitei Lon (Manipuri). He further mentioned that the university offers a diverse range of undergraduate courses in various Indian languages. IGNOU has introduced live online classes in 13 Indian languages through Six SWAYAM PRABHA TV Channels, catering to learners in their mother tongue. New 23% Students have adopted the university’s e-course material with 15% less fee, the number of re-registration students has also increased rapidly. He further mentioned that the UGC Chairman has launched the IGNOU undergraduate 19 programmes offered under the FYPU framework in the Multi-disciplinary, Major categories contribute to the GER in Higher Education.The University has forged partnerships with prominent organizations like NSDC and NCVET to offer skill-based certificates and degrees. Additionally, collaborative efforts with DTNBWED and the Ministry of Skill Development aim to enhance skill development and vocational education. The university has also proposed to add new skill-based courses in Sanskrit and Urdu undergraduate programme, he added.He also announced that the 37th Convocation will be held in latter half of February 2024.The other highlight of the Republic Day Celebrations was the special display of activities organized by the Security Department of the University. Republic Day was also celebrated across the 56 Regional Centres of the university.
