Heera Group CEO Dr. Nowhera Sheikh Arrested Without Reason
A Case Like Ahmed AR Bukhari and Coastal Energy
A Conspiracy to Target Muslim-Linked Businesses?
New Delhi / Hyderabad (Report: Matiur Rehman Aziz) The arrest of Heera Group of Companies CEO Dr. Nowhera Sheikh once again by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has further heightened concerns about a conspiracy to target Muslim-linked businesses. Although the company was implementing the orders of the Supreme Court and Dr. Nowhera Sheikh had agreed to sign over 16 identified properties on the recent order of the Supreme Court. Even after a long hearing in the Telangana PMLA court for one and a half months, the court did not find the need for arrest, but the ED repeatedly referred to the Supreme Court and obtained an arrest order. This is also surprising because immediately after the Supreme Court order, Dr. Nowhera Sheikh had asked through daily emails that which papers should be signed, the place and documents should be determined and told so that the Heera Group could fully comply.
There are serious concerns among the public that the ED wants to pave the way for transferring the valuable properties of the Heera Group to specific people at cheap prices through the arrest of Dr. Nowhera Sheikh. According to a press release from the Enforcement Directorate, Rs 122 crore has been received so far from the auction of some properties, while the Heera Group maintains that the claims of all the complainants are within Rs 50 crore. The company says that it is in a position to fulfill its agreements with more than 85% of the investors through its means and resources, but the ED is focused on the auction while showing no interest in paying the victims their dues from the Rs 122 crore it has received.
When renowned journalist Ravish Kumar brought out the story of Coastal Energy Private Limited, public suspicions increased further. In March 2022, Ahmed AR Bukhari was arrested on charges of money laundering of Rs 542 crore. The owner was kept in jail for 31 months without any concrete evidence. After three years of hard work, the court and the department had to admit that the case was fictitious. Ahmed Bukhari was released, but Coastal Energy was completely ruined. Experts say that the same situation is developing with the Heera Group. So far, the ED has not presented any concrete evidence to prove that the Heera Group led by Dr. Nowhera Sheikh has committed any financial corruption. The process of auctioning expensive properties at cheap prices based only on allegations is going on. Dr. Nowhera Sheikh is clear that he has done nothing wrong. If the investors want their money back, they have the resources and are ready to pay every rightful owner in full under the supervision of the court.
Justice demands that the allegations be investigated transparently and impartially. If the company is willing to pay, then it should be given a chance. By selling expensive properties at low prices, not only the investors but also the reputation of the court and the department should not be damaged. The illegal encroachments on the properties of the Heera Group and the story buildings during the arrest should also be investigated. Sources say that in the absence of Dr. Nowhera Sheikh, several vacant bungalows and flats have been occupied by influential people. All these incidents indicate a bias towards a specific class. They are raising the question among the public whether successful businesses associated with Muslims are being deliberately weakened and destroyed? If the allegations are not proven, then the confidence of not only the affected families but also the entire economic system will be shaken. The Supreme Court and human rights organizations should monitor this matter transparently so that the demand for justice is met and the charge of economic terrorism cannot be proven.
